Best restaurant in Zetland: Interesting Chinese tea etiquette that you should know
Have you wondered why the Chinese serve others tea before they serve themselves? Or why does your Chinese friend tap the table twice when someone refills his or her cup? We have the answers for you! Read on.
Your cup is empty, you want some tea. What should you do now? Serve others first then yourself. If the person you are serving is in the middle of a conversation, do not interrupt and ask if he or she wants tea. Just pour it. When he or she taps two fingers, index and middle fingers, twice on the table, it means “thank you, I saw your kindness act but I am in a middle of a conversation so I can’t say thank you.”
When toasts are performed, use both hands to hold the cup to show respect. You can toast with any drinks. How to toast? Hold the cup to shoulder height, make eye contact and smile. If you only can use a hand, make sure you use your right hand.
By now you should be ready to be a tea pro equipped with proper Chinese etiquette. Come dine at the best restaurant in Zetland, East Phoenix Chinese restaurant soon! We serve yumcha and dinner 7 days a week.
