Best restaurant in Zetland: Interesting Chinese food will probably surprise you
There are so many types of Chinese food and here are a few interesting ones that might surprise you:
Have you heard of the “Beggar’s Chicken”? It is a must-eat dish when you visit Hangzhou. So what’s the story about this dish? Long time ago, a beggar in Hangzhou happened to have a chicken and he wants to cook it. Without utensils and cutleries, he wrapped the entire chicken with mud and roasted it. When he removes the mud, the chicken feathers fell off together too.
Don’t freak out, it is cooked differently now! The “beggar’s chicken” served now are wrapped with lotus leaves and roasted. Most importantly, the feathers are plucked out before cooking.
Next, we have this dish called “Bamboo Rice”. It is like its name, rice cooked in bamboo. But what makes it so special is the fresh fragrance of the bamboo. It is common cooked with pork as well.
Those black shiny eggs you see in Chinese restaurants are called ‘preserved eggs’. This food originated since the Ming Dynasty, which is roughly 1368-1644. It is said to have the ability to dispel effects of alcohol.
In East Phoenix, we serve a few dishes that use century eggs as ingredients. For example, minced pork congee with preserved egg during our daily yumcha! Tempted to try some? Dine at the best Chinese restaurant in Zetland, East Phoenix soon!
